Purpose : We report differences of intensities in the surgical field using light microscopy between surgeons. Object and Method : Objects were 11 facilities where cataract surgeries were performed. Illuminances were measured at the focal distance of the objective lens using an illuminometer. And the coaxial assistant microscope and the main surgeon's years of experience were surveyed. Result : The average luminous intensity was 24,700 Lx, minimum 2,700 Lx and maximum 43,600 Lx. There were no differences in the assistant microscope and the surgeon respectively. Conclusion : There was much difference between minimum and maximum luminous intensity. It would be desirable to describe the luminous intensity in the surgical field in multicenter trial studies on visual acuity, macular edema and so forth after cataract surgery.
