N2 - The social security system, including the national health insurance system, in Japan has been maintained at a world-class level since 1974. However, an increase in the number of elderly people, and a decrease in the working generation, caused by a declining birthrate, represents a serious issue for the system both in the present and future. This report analyzes the key problems in the current insurance system and also considers how they can be handled in the future.
